Eight ball billiards 8-ball - Some say the most popular billiards game in the United States. And one of my most favorites. 8-ball uses 15 numbered balls and a cue ball (the white one). One player attempts to pocket balls 1-7 and the other player tries to pocket balls 9-15. When a player makes all seven of his or her balls, the player attempts to make the 8 ball in a specific pocket. He/she does this by saying which pocket they intend to get the 8 ball into. If he does so (and does not also put the cue ball in too) he or she wins the game. Of course if they do not make it into the intended pocket, they lose the game. Now I know what you are saying, we don't play it this way at my house. More about the game of billiards
Billiards is a game
played on a table with low rubber boundary around the edges, small
balls, and a stick or "cue" used to push the white ball into other
balls. Billiards is also used to refer to the entire family of
billiard-like games including pool games, once called pocket billiards,
and snooker. Caroms and carom billiards are, today, synonyms for
billiards that help distinguish them from the other billiard-like games.
Although the game billiards has been eclipsed by its more popular
brethren (few modern pool halls have billiard tables) the name has
escaped the seedier associations of pool halls and still finds
employment where more "sophisticated" terms are needed.
